loocfox it is a very daunting thing to have to get your head around. My dad who is almost 67 had one at 60. By the time the op was due we were so glad because his pains were getting so bad. Like your friend he was very fit up until his illness. I think this aided his recovery immensely and now he is perfectly fine. He still goes to the gym and walks a lot too. His life has turned around really. Your friend is lucky to have a friend in you.
Thanks Chessman, MyCatis, Eddies1, & Sunflower68. I rang my friend and she was so happy to hear that there are elderley people out there who have survived this operation and lived long and happy years after. I think she thought that at her age she would not fare well after the op. but after reading what you all said she is now more happy to go ahead with the op. Gratefull to all replys. Loocfox.

My eldest sister Amy had rheumatic fever as a young child & she always sounded like Puffing Billy (or should I say Billie for a girl)! However, she went on to have a triple by pass 20 years ago & hasn't looked back. She's just celebrated her 74th birthday & will be flying out to her son's home in Spain for a month at Christmas!
I'm sure your friend will be fine Looc.
