Deep Vein Thrombosis
40 Answers
I went to the docs today with a bad pain in my right calf.Had to go to hospital.Gave blood for a D-Rimer test and was told it would take 2 hours for results.Meanwhile,a consultant examined me and said I almost certainly have a blood clot and need to return tomorrow morning for an ultrasound.
He wasn't interested on waiting for the bloods. Is this normal?

No it isn't in my opinion.
I am rather confused here and from the OP and subsequent post, I could not convince myself that you had a blood clot ANYWHERE, as if there was a suspicion you would have been admitted and anticoagulated immediately.....and you weren't.
I am not sure what you mean by a "scan.".....that might suggest that the consultant felt that the problem wasn't on the venous side (Deep Vein Thrombosis) but on the arterial side (embolus, thrombus or narrowing) in which a Doppler might be helpful.
All very confusing and not helped by the sparse description of the "pain in your calf."

Thanks Sqad for your thoughts.
I was sent home with Apixaban which is an anti-coagulant as you will of course know.I did refer to anti-inflammatorys but that's what I was originally told I would be given.
The pain in the calf is a constant throbbing ache which varies in intensity.
I shall know much more after the ultrasound today and will update.
