I know you said 'kitchen remedies' but I would suggest a visit to the doctor and ask if they would consider prescribing Omeprazole if appropriate.
I woke up in ITU and asked the nurse if I were allowed a Gaviscon from my bedside locker as I was on other meds. He came back with two omeprazole which I have taken for about 8 years. Never had acid reflux since.
Gaviston liquid is good, but like retrocop mentioned, a ppi like omeprazole, does a better job. Bicarbonate of soda works well for some people, I have been told.
.
I was prescribed Nexium for a long while , then the doc started giving me Omeprazole, when I said I did not think it worked as well as Nexium I was told it was really expensive and I had to make do with Omeprazole . So now I also have a bottle of Peptac to use if necessary. But when all else fails I have a couple of spoonfuls of porridge which seems to take the edge of the heartburn :)
I suffered from bad acid reflux and it was keeping me awake at night. Gaviscon doesnt do anything for me so I went to see the doc. She prescribed Lansoprazole and I have not had a bout of it since. Brilliant drug.
