could some kind person please explain the difference if any?

We were told last night that they were keeping Mr Alba in over the weekend for monitoring and would go for an MRI on Monday as they didn't do MRI's over the weekend (fair enough)

He went for a CT scan earlier today tho.

Absolutely no complaints about his treatment, I just forgot to ask what the difference, if any, was.

If one is looking for a soft tissue problem e.g nerve, or brain or liver.......then an MRI scan is the answer.

If you suspect a boney problem e. arthritis or vertebral problem, the a C-T scan is more appropriate.

aha, thank you all very much.

A CT scan makes much more sense.

I know they're both to do with having a nosey at the brain but technology is breath-takingly wonderful for spotting the difference!

If he has has a stroke, then an MRI scan would be of more value, as the brain and blood vessels are soft tissue, they may also inject a dye to add clarity to the MRI.

They do use CT to look at soft tissues - particularly to see if cancer has spread to any organs but MRI gives a much finer detail, especially in the brain or where there is the possibility of an operation and the experts need to see exactly what's what.

The younger alba was talking to a work colleague today who had had a stroke some time ago and he was unsure why Mr Alba would have an MRI when he had had a CT scan but no MRI.

We were all surprised about the CT scan today (as a family I mean)

I thought that i had explained that.........he originally had a CT scan because it would be cheaper than an MRI and might be negative. If there was an abnormality on CT scan then an MRI would be followed by possible dye injection, to show up more cleraly the abnormality.

I had a CT scan in the week and an MRI yesterday.
The difference.....I was totally freaked out by the MRI but coped very well with the CT.

Haven't posted anything Anne :-D nothing missed.

Over past couple of weeks, his gait has altered, we thought, och, it's age.
His speech had been slipping a bit too.
However, on Thursday, much more pronounced in gait and speech, by Friday morning, well, gosh.
Admitted Friday about 1pm. Waiting confirmation of anything/everything.
