Getting Nearer To Cochlear Ear Inplant.
5 Answers
Went for yet another appointment today for OH and his CEI. The person we saw today seemed very hopeful on him getting one. But it does take an awful long time. He has already had four appointments over about four months. He will get another appointment in November when the decision is made. Then if he is accepted it will take place next May. It is amazing what it can do but will take about six to eight weeks for him to adjust to the totally different way of hearing.
At the moment he is stone deaf without his hearing aids. Even with them he struggles. I have lots of conversations on my own as he doesn't know I am speaking to him. He misheard such a lot. His best one was I had said something to him that I can't remember, he asked why would you want to do that, I asked what do you mean. He said,"why would you want to spread poached salmon on your legs?" I did have a laugh at that. He does need help.
I was amazed reading a notice there today. It said the equipment costs the same as a small car. We really hope he gets accepted for this.

They are no better than amplifiers that can be purchased for a tenner in some magazine shoved through the letter box. Easylife or some such chinese tat. They just amplify all the background noise I dont want to hear so cannot hear those close to me who are trying to converse. I give up on the telephone wearing the damn things. I just tell the caller to shout as I am deaf or just forget it. :-(
