Was talking to my friend this eve about this, why some men go grey/white in their forties and some , well, just don’t! What causes it? Mr Smow is 47 and still has dark brown hair, not a single grey hair, and isn’t losing any at all. Is there any reason to it?
Himself started going grey in his late teens (I didn’t know him then). My dark haired children all have rogue white hairs. My hair is currently a bizarre combination of very dark, dirty blonde, grey and white but I wear it tied back so it looks v dark with a huge white streak (that people think I have done on purpose).
Mr S is 73 and still has a full head of thick fair hair although his beard is going a bit grey in parts. He takes after his Mum who was a natural blonde until her hair went completely white in her eighties.
Very annoying.I spend a fortune getting rid of grey hair :)
Genetics definitely has a lot to do with it. When I started at college, there was a fellow 18-year-old in our hall of residence whose hair was going grey. He said it ran in his family. A year later he had totally silver hair - and every girl in the college wanting to date him!
My father lost most of his hair in his twenties. I am almost 70 with a good head of hair which is white. When I grow a full beard (seasonal) it is also white. My eyebrows remain black. Some wags accuse me of using Grecian 2000 and others reckon I am a Alastair Darling Clone.
I have known two unrelated people who went grey then white in their teens. In one (bloke) it ran in the family. In the other (woman) she went white in her early teens over one school summer holidays She told me she had always had a very short hairstyle and at first her family just thought her hair was sun bleaching. She went to a very strict convent day school and when she went back, she was sent home "until the bleach had grown out". They didn't believe her or her parents and had to get a doctor's letter before she was allowed back.
In our 70 s. His hair was blond and now white. Mine is still mousey brown, so is lightened with blonde highlights as it has been for years A hint of silver in just one silver streak at the front. Most of my family haven't gone grey until their 80s.
