Potassium
7 Answers
Hi all,
I take Losartan and Amlodipine for high BP and have just been prescribed Indapamide as well as BP was creeping up (according to the HCA at my GP practice). However, the Indapamide is causing my Potassium levels to come down and my GP says I have to eat more bananas !! I already have one every day and am now eating a Kiwi fruit as well - have been told that they are potassium rich as well. I was wondering if I could go to a health food shop and get some potassium tabs instead of eating more bananas - any thoughts anybody ??
Many thanks

I wouldn't get too worked up about potassium depletion from diuretics, as it much less common as people imagine. I shouldn't worry about your potassium levels unless you develop muscle cramps and then you would need to revisit your GP.
I would suggest that your present regime of a banana a day should be perfectly satisfactory.
You haven't told us what your potassium levels are.
Carry on with your usual regime and monitor the situation over the next 3 months.
