Some might say if it was going to be changed that a new anthem should be composed rather than some Anglo-centric ditty for John Bull types and Pimms swillers to hoorah about.

It is a 'national' anthem after all, green and pleasant though England may be, it's only a part of our nation.

Slightly off topic, but my favorite National Anthems are the French and the German...Quite stirring, although some people might find them to sound a little too militaristic.

the country deserves to have an anthem that reflects the country (England) not a family that doesn't have justifiable power. given that the nation is no longer a practicing CofE country, all reference to Christianity needs to be removed.

I like the current anthem. Listening to it at the Olympics makes my eyes fill. Jerusalem at the Commonwealth Games doesn’t do the same for me.
