I have been given the above and I am very good at swallowing pills. But these when swallowed whole just stick. I tried to break them up there now and I couldn't get the powdery stuff down either. Any other way to get them down.

In a spoonful of yoghurt, jam, porridge... something of that consistency x

thanks Pixie - they are quite big methinks and I have tried to down them with milk. I'll try the yogurt next time. You know the coated ones go down much easier- I'll ask for them next time tho I doubt doc will give them to me.
Question Author
I did mean to say - they;ll go down but "stick" in the throat.
I think they would have an alternative if you are struggling. Give it a go... and hopefully it will help xx
Always find fizzy pop helps to get pills down.
What kind of painkillers are they?
My husband has always found taking any tablets difficult. Like Nailit he has found that a fizzy drink helps.
Question Author
next time I get them I am going to ask for coated ones.

^^^ think I have repeated myself there LOL
Even different shapes can make a difference.

Can you get the painkillers over the counter?
if they don't need to be taken on an empty stomach then take with food. Dont just put the tablet in a spoonful of whatever, carry on and eat two or three more spoonsful
If you think that you will be unable to swallow tablets then you will tense up and you will find that they don't go down.

I take 12 tablets at bedtime - I just get the tablets, stick them in my mouth, take a huge gulp of *fluid and then swallow the *fluid and the tablets will go down no problem.

*fluid - preferably water but whatever is to hand.

I just use a pill cutter for tablets I have difficulty swallowing. A very cheap device you can get from the chemist.
Question Author
have ordered the pill cutter - ta all for your answers.
I always find that it is much easier for tablets to go down taking them with food.
Take a bite of bread or toast, chew it until you are just about to swallow than pop the pill in and swallow everything at once.
Then have another bite of bread or toast or whatever.
I think the secret is to get the pill wrapped in the food so that it doesn't touch the sides.
As others have said, your Dr will almost certainly prescribe you an alternative if you cannot get the pills down. There's no point in your having them if you cannot take them.
Good luck.....
