Beginning To Be A Little Concerned About This Leg Of Mine

Went on holiday 14/9/19 to the lovely Fife. Great cottage, but Sun. 15th I stepped into the shower and the shower-mat concertinaed under my foot and I went flying. It was a shower-over-bath and the mixer tap raked my right shin in my fall (about 3"). I went to Cupar Minor Injuries Unit and was patched-up with 3 steri-strips to hold the gash together and iodine-infused dressings. On return visit there, just before we came home, they professed themselves satisfied, stuck a dressing on it and waved me bye-bye.

Today I am beginning to become concerned. Below the wound my leg is very red and hot and also noticeably more swollen than the left leg - if I press it the depression lasts for some time. Of course it is the weekend and no local doctor's surgery available. Just asking if anyone thinks it is serious enough to bother A&E because if so I'd rather get there before the influx on Saturday night. Thanks.

21.39 If you got a lot of pain, you will get from A toB no matter what you have to suffer for relief.
Glad you got seen, take whatever pain relief helps.
I hope it settles soon, Jourdain. It must be a worry for you.

Thank you all very much. I suppose I'm being a bit sorry for myself, but it does hurt and is very worrying. Today the nurse mentioned 'want to avoid sepsis' - I knew someone died from that in 4 days early this year. Rather scary. :)
jourdain2 glad you went and had it looked at, not before time by the sounds of it. In my experience it can take up to 48 hours before the antibiotics really start to work, and you feel some relief. But now you are in the system, you will get all the assistance you need. Keep us updated, All the best xx
oh dear Jourdain... hope you are better soon xx
Thanks for the update....much appreciated.
P.S Yes you can take ibuprofen with your antibiotics.

As always, thank you all. It's really very painful now under the dressing - I hope that means it is gathering and concentrating the pus. I'd to ring a 'Dressings Centre' for an appointment on Tuesday latest. The first appointment they could arrange was Wednesday, so I've to ring my GPs. tomorrow morning and try for an appointment with the nurse. Since they are out in the villages doing 'flu jab' clinics on Tues., I'm not hopeful. Well, if necessary I shall hop back into the M.I.U. at Bridlington and take a picnic and good book. :(
I guess at least you have a plan B, may not be so busy in the week. But practice nurses must go to surgery first thing to pick up vaccine, surely they could see you first thing before they leave, or is that to simple.
Question Author
Probably. :(
How are you today? Do hope the swelling and pain have reduced.

Thanks for asking hellyw. I had a better night and it was less red and swollen in the morning, but now it's sore and almost as hot and red again. I actually managed to get an appointment with my surgery's nurse tomorrow late afternoon, so feel happier about that - there'll be a doctor around if she's worried and they know that I don't fuss about nothing. :)
Good that you are being seen again to monitor this Jourdain.
I hope your injury clears up soon, it is good that you have seen a doctor and got antibiotics. It's always difficult to work out what to do about an injury.

Take care
OK good you seeing nurse, you need dressing changed? Saves you trudging to get to local hospital, how is walking? And GP can have a look if necessary.
Question Author
Walking ranges from a bit painful to rather painful. Dog will sulk soon at the reduced walks. :(
Yes but he /she will enjoy even more when walk gets back normal.
So sorry to hear this, I hope you're up and walking real soon.
It's all sent to try us Jourdain...
Glad you have an appointment with nurse tomorrow. Hope it heals soon for you. x
