What's wrong with me, I saw a pair of shoes yesterday, good price, good quality, but still couldn't bring myself to buy them. Could it be after years of making every penny count, looking after a family( now all left the nest) and not buying much for myself, Or do you just get more miserable and tight as you get older. Its not as if I'm short. When I get back home I regret not buying, and its not just this occasion. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not over loaded with shoes, but would like some new winter boots, instead of just wearing my walking boots in winter.
I think it is habit... I still have real difficulty in going and buying something for myself, and not children or granddaughter instead. Go and get them still, if you want them x
It's really hard to switch from a saving mindset to a spending one (and vice versa I guess). My friends urge me to spend more of the nest egg I've built up but there's just nothing material I want that I think would make me happier. I've started giving decent sums to younger family members.
Its a weird feeling really, ( and a genuine one) just in case anyone thinks its a wind up. But I wouldn't have a problem splashing it out for someone else that needed such. Now I will sit for the next week wondering weather to go and get them. :0)
Go. Go.Go. Same position as you. After years of getting by we are in a position to be able to afford what we want. He who hesitates .....and all that. Wife and I are dreadful to buy presents for. We want nothing. If we want something we get it ourselves without hesitation. That avoids disappointment. :-)
We’ve decided this year ( for Christmas) to go away between Christmas and New Year in a cottage in rural Northumberland, and that’s our present to each other and as Retro says, we don’t need anything
Well that's nice Bobbs! but I'm afraid it would take me till next christmas to make up my mind up, and that's by starting to think of it from now. :0) PS don't book York!!
If we did (book York) it would be staying with friends who live there, OH is one for doing that but when I go on one of my many girls away trips, we’d do that :0)
Think of the purchase as an investment, Teacake. A decent pair of really nice boots will last you for a few years.
I bought a particular pair of Ecco shoes about fifteen years ago and they are still as good as new, even though they get a lot of wear and another bonus is that they are so comfortable.

Wife and I booked a hotel in Malta for Christmas and New Year for 2nd year running. Pleased to treat our younger son (36). The way to go. No shopping, no decorations and trees to dress, no veg to prepare or Turkey to get out the freezer. Last year I got the drumstick with the parson’s nose and had a brilliant Queen tribute group in the evening. Superb stress free holiday. Full size bowling alley and sunshine all day. Bloody marvellous.
