Poisoned Finger

Hi there. I have a poisoned finger I've had it for 3 days getting worse I went to see a pharmacist who told me to put germolne on it and soak it with very hot water. No difference as yet 24 hours ago. I put a plaster on it overnight not sure if I should have done that it is now incredibly swollen the infection hasn't moved I marked it. I am type 2 diabetic and a chronic nail biter not sure what to do next my mum said try magnesium sulphate any ideas

The friends who store antibiotics , that’s abuse of the NHS.

Sorry, just seen this. No, Anne, they would otherwise be destroyed. It actually saves them money. I am not recommending it for anyone else x

But they shouldn't have been given any more than they are supposed to use for the infection that they were prescribed for.

Depends on which antibiotics they are.

Maybe they were prescribed to someone who didn't finsh the course hence they still have some left.

They don't... not everyone finishes a course, whether they are supposed to or not.

I remember years ago when I went to stay with a friend in Australia. I went down with the worst throat bug and she said "Don't worry, I`ll get you some antibiotics from work" (she was a nurse).

Please finish the course of antibiotics whether you feel better or not. This information is on all antibiotic prescribed for a reason .

Of course... but I am sure you and woof are maybe two of the most aware, that people don't always do what they are advised :-)

I had a manky finger which I poked and prodded until it nearly went black and I had to have two courses of antibiotics (it turned out to be a paronychia) - it was truly gross and hurt more than anything I can remember.

I don't think I've ever finished a course of antibiotics.

what people do is up to them and often silly. I certainly wouldn't condone it by asking for their "stored" antibiotics.

Antibiotics are like gold dust and really hard to get from the doctor (for me anyway). If I had a friend who had some in date that were broad spectrum well known like amoxycillin I'd bite their hand off. I think most people don't finish the course.
