If it was harmful to your hair no one would buy it ! Also it could never have passed the UK Health and Safety rules (Which are VERY strict!)

I've never found it so, if you use the conditioner afterwards your hair will be lovely.

You're getting confused. Nice'n Easy do have a 'no ammonia' range but those dyes only last for up to 24 hours. Their range of permanent dyes DO contain ammonia.

Whether they're harmful to your hair is subjective. Ordinary shampoo might be regarded as 'harmful' to hair, as it removes oil from it, but most people probably wouldn't think of it as such. Similarly, all dyes could be regarded as 'harmful' but with those containing ammonia probably being more so.

UK health and safety can't be sure of the long term effects of hair dye.Not scare mongering, but what I was reading some time back now, the powers that be where looking at all hair dye, for possible links to certain types of cancer., thus being the dye penetrating the scalp, and entering the blood stream very quickly. Every one makes their own choice that being said.

Lymphoma was the one I was reading up on, but with many no final conclusions. But really dye is, I would think a chemical and it don't make any sense to allow such to soak into your skin.

Any paint is harmful to hair.

Not the gentlest on the market but just condition well afterwards. I preferred the modern oil based ones
