You may not believe this, but cherries work, lots of them. I know from experience!
You're going to laugh, but the only thing that works for me is to like on the sofa with the affected foot raised - any wrapped in a packet of frozen peas. After about an hour, the pain has completely gone.
allupurinol is more of a preventative treatment. If you are currently having an attack you should be on something like diclofenac Sodium. Surprised the doc didn't give you both.

he gave me both colchicine and alopurinol, cannot take too much NSAIDs

does gout get worse when first embarking on a new treatment of preventitive meds ( alopurinol ) cant find anything on google but think ive heard somewhere that gout will get worse when started on this drug
//scared to take too much NSAIDs or colchicine .....//
I feel your pain. I suffered AKI due to overdose of contrast dye. I used to take Diclofenac 50g 3 times a day but as it is a NSAID told never to use it again.
When I get gout I bite the bullet and take a few Diclofenac. I really have got to the stage of past caring. I cannot stand being immobile
my brother had gout years ago but nothing would stop him getting out and so he travelled on an old bike
"does gout get worse when first embarking on a new treatment of preventitive meds ( alopurinol )"

Yes.

General advice here:

Ask your GP about the possibility of corticosteroids. If the pain's really bad, phone 111 if you're in GB. If you're still in NI, phone the relevant number shown here:

My husband has three medications for preventing and treating gout and for pain relief.
Cholchacine is very useful for a flare-up. Naproxen I think is for pain relief, and he has Allopurinol too. Perhaps you could ask your GP for more help.
Husband also eats a lot of cherries, like Boaty.
you might get fed up with eating cherries, but, believe me, they do work very well.
yes there is something you can do
take lansop for stomach acid and THEN up the NSAIDs - drop your llansop or ranitidine now and you can take more NSAID in an hour or two - it works that quick
and paracetamol
why arent you taking colcha? It works quite well

and here is the advice on allopurinol

Do not start allopurinol during an acute attack of gout
Allopurinol should not be started at the time of an acute attack of gout, however, if a patient is already taking it regularly, then it should be continued at the same dose.1 Aug 2017

Cherries. Believe me. Don't take the meds. cherries, natures cure.
Best cherry option is montmorency cherries either as concentrate or tablet form as they are too sour to eat as they are. It's sour black cherries that have the most anti inflammatory properties but any will do if it's all you can get.
You're right rowan. But cherries from wherever will do the trick. You will need a lot of them, but that is natures way.
I have half this and half cranberry every day, natural anti inflammatory and natural blood thinners in one!
Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
My son uses Optima Montmorency Cherry Juice Concentrate - available health food shops or Amazon - it's not instant - and he was sceptical - but it works!
I had gout, for the first time ever, about 3 years ago, first in one hand, then in the other hand. My GP prescribed Allopurinol 100 mg tablets, at first one a day. That dose wasn't quite enough to kill the gout, so he doubled the dose. I have not suffered from gout since then.
The management of gout by your GP is quite correct.
Alupurinol may make you gout worse initially, but crack on with it.
I agree with retrocop......."bite the bullet and take Nsaids."

An ice pack around both feet would be helpful.
I'd urge Pumpjack to check with his GP before trying any of the cherry-based products suggested above. Somebody with CKD is likely to be on a low-potassium diet, which means limiting the amount of fruit eaten and avoiding all fruit juices. (I'm on a low-potassium diet myself).
I know the pain.
Allupurinol is my prescribed med and it does help. Needed steroids at start to kill pain as it took a while for Allupurinol to take effect.
Cherries are great, but where do you get fresh at this time of year. Don't want to use the tinned ones as the syrup is too much sugar.
I read too that pineapple is also beneficial. But as it's too much for one person to eat in a few days I freeze the chunks and just add a few to a glass of water. It also helps stop the acid cutting my mouth.
