I know many young boys who like to stick their leg out the passenger window (not in my car). This is a perfect example of why you should just sit properly.

As someone suffering from hip pain as we speak that made me wince - the pain must have been unbearable and she's never going to be as fully able as she was.

I often see (mainly) younger people sitting in cars with their feet on the dashboard. There seems to be an alarming number of (mainly) younger people who simply cannot keep their feet on the deck - on buses, trains, all over. Hopefully this will encourage those who do so in cars to be a little more sensible and so not qualify for this year's Darwin award. But I doubt it.

Retro surely you can't mean that? As brief moment of ignorance / not thinking properly about safety and you feel they "deserve all they get" which in this case is the xray in question?

Pfft. I don't think so. I wouldn't wish that on anyone let alone say they deserve it.

No one expects to get into a car crash. Most of us anticipate the possibility by putting our seat belts on, but some of these younger folk believe they're invincible and that it won't happen to them.

Fact is it does! So always prepare for the worst.

Then if they are that stupid they get the Darwin award and deserve the consequences. Perhaps they should sit in the back seat until they grow up.
You don't look cool encased in plaster and hobbling on crutches.
The driver's must be pretty dumb to allow it in their cars also.

I think the concept of stupidity, and consequences, and one deserving the other, is a moveable feast.

In this instance, the not immediately clear consequences of resting feet on a car dashboard, compared with the catastrophic injuries that can occur in an accident, means that the stupidity absolutely does not deserve the consequences.

'Stupidity' is very often more accurately lack of thought, or experience in the world, or both, and I think that for those of us with more of that experience to wish such harm on people acting in a way we may have done at their age, is somewhat callous.

Retro, no I did not read the airbag issue and I actually until you mentioned that forgot that airbags existed and would have been deployed in the case in the article.

Well the car isn’t your sun lounger or sofa so if your not going to sit in it properly there is always the risk of extra damage should there be an accident.

It amazes me what one sees in front passenger seats - twice in only the last week I've seen dangerous examples; 1. Dog sitting on lap, 2. Young child sitting on lap. How stupendously stupid (and I believe, illegal).
