Is there anything that’s sold only seasonally that you wish you could buy all year round? It occurred to me today that Hot Cross buns would be on my list - and then thoughts of big tubs of Quality Street that only seem to be on sale at Christmas, and summer clothes for those winter trips to hot climes, entered the fray. Just pondering.

I was reasonably confident that Asda already sell hot cross buns throughout the year and a quick look at their press releases confirms it:
"We have two products that are available year round – the Asda six pack and the Extra Special four pack. You can also pick up a pack from our stores with a bakery, which are baked from scratch in store and crossed by hand – we sell around 10 million packs of these a year!"

Do they, Chris? I rarely go into Asda ... but that could change! Thanks.
I'm not too keen on Quality Street. My teeth aren't really up to the toffees! Tubs of Roses, though, should definitlely be available throughout the year ;-)

Summer clothes on sale during the winter? Have you never been in T K Maxx then? ;-)
Question Author
Like the rest of Cadbury's chocolate, Roses has never been the same since the company sold out. Not nice now.

Yes, I have been into T K Maxx. A bit of a mish mash of a market where you have to rely on the luck of the draw. Not for me.
Matalan then, perhaps?

Chris , all the high street shops stock seasonal clothes.
///Tubs of Roses, though, should definitely be available throughout the year///

They are, but tucked away in the confectionery aisle, as opposed to December when they are in piles all over the supermarket's open spaces where you have to be careful not to fall over them ;-)
Asda hot cross buns are fabulous.
Many large chains and possibly some smaller ones have a 'Holiday Shop' section.

eg Debenhams.

^^^ I think that you might struggle to find the big tubs of Quality Street in the confectionery aisle, Canary42. I've looked for them (as gifts for others) before now and I've only ever been able to find them in fairly small boxes.
^^^ 'Quality Street', above, should read 'Quality Street, Roses, etc'.

Very limited though Mamyalynne. Try looking for a good selection of glitzy sandals in November.

Thanks for all the suggestions but the thread was posted to encourage a bit of a natter really. I just wondered what items others would like to see in the shops all year round.
///only ever been able to find them in fairly small boxes.///

On reflection, yes you're probably right. But the display areas do get bigger and bigger from Autumn to Xmas.
I thought I'd come up with something I'd like to see in stores all year round (instead of just in the run-up to Bonfire Night) but it seems that Asda sell that all year round too. (Well, it's definitely listed on their website anyway):

Big Black Juicy Cherries. To die for YUM!
What I'd like to see more reliably available in stores all year long is haggis. Some supermarkets seem to have it on their chiller shelves most of the time but others only have it around New Year's Eve and Burns Night.
There's not really anything I eat at certain times that I can't get at other times - though admittedly they may be more pricey out od season.

Oh yes Chris, black peas followed by a slice of parkin is good at any time.
Question Author
I didn't know that was a Bonfire Night thing, Chris. I've heard of Parkin only vaguely. It's a northern favourite isn't it?
With fruit being imported from all around the world these days, Ladybirder, I'm surprised that you can't find your cherries all year round. (I have to admit that I've not looked for them myself though).

As an aside, I'll mention that the raspberries that Tesco are currently selling are utterly gorgeous and far better than those I've bought in recent weeks in Asda, Morrison's and the Co-op. (They're from Kenya. The variety is Grandeur).
I first encountered parkin, Naomi, when I lived 'oop north'. (Sheffield). Although it wasn't impossible to find it at other times of year, it was always strongly associated with Bonfire Night up there. It's a northern thing that like, say, haslet (which I'd never heard of until I moved to Sheffield), is now found across the country.
