Since yesterday morning Ive had this dreadful, but not painful, sound in both ears. It sounds as though someone is pinging something incredibly incredibly fast, and it’s been there for over 24 hours. At first I actually thought I was standing next to something making the noise but no. I’m never going to get a doctors appointment and tbh at this moment in time I wouldn’t bother them as I’m not in pain.
Any ideas what it could possibly be?? It’s just driving me mad.

Ohhhh it might be that you know. Have read signs/ symptoms. One includes under active thyroid, which I have, and the other is dizziness, and I fainted at the weekend. Is it urgent to see a doctor seeing the current medical climate?? Not sure what to do - don’t want to bother anyone at all.
in my experience, tinnitus develops slowly over years rather than leaping out at you one day. In normal circs I'd say see a doctor just in case there's some underlying cause (have you started taking quinine pills?) but yes, it'll take a while to see anyone these days.
well, that link does say seek medical help immediately if it's accompanied by dizziness, so that's what Id do.
Personally I wouldn't as things stand at the moment. When I have it very occasionally, it goes away on its own.
I have had Tinnitus for a number of years. It began as an intermittent ringing sound with a slight background of hissing. It has now developed into a continuous ringing/hissing and, like many ailments, I have learned to live with it.
This sounds like tinnitus, Smow, which I get from time to time - it comes and goes and can't really be treated.

By the way, a while back I think you posted about a young homeless person that you'd helped that led to problems. What happened later?

Thanks ever so much guys.
Hi Braniac - if I remember rightly it turned out he was on drugs, and it really wasn’t obvious. He turned up at our house one day and I let him in for a cup of tea. When my back was turned he stole my purse

Oh..........
I get this in my right ear; I can hear and feel the ping.
If I stretch my neck and head over my left shoulder and firmly stroke down on the skin under my right ear it can change the frequency/tone of the 'ping'.
I was told it is some sort of 'spasm' in the ear-drum which it why it can be altered by external physical manipulation.
It's all to do with Tinnitus but I just put up with it, there's really not much else to be done.
Oh heck. Was there much money in it and credit cards etc?
yep - all the signs of Tinnitus.

You can get it from taking certain pills, stress, and deafness.

When I take it - mine sounds as if a bee is buzzing in and out of my ear.

When cousin takes it - hers sounds like a washing machine. It goes away eventually and nope, doctors can not do one thing about it.
like Ken - you can't guarantee it will go away again, it may hang around for years slowly geting worse.

I'd be making an appointment with my GP, which would inevitably take a week or more, then cancel if the pinging goes away.
I have high-pitched Tinnitus. It started after I banged my head as child and I've had it since. There is no cure. Various people will tell you to see the doc and other well-meaning services, but none of them have been help to me. I just live with high pitched whistling in both ears. In fact, I'd probably be worried if it stopped! Actually, amazed would be a better word. Sorry if you've got Tinnitus. I can vouch how it is!
Mine came on suddenly. Expected the ringing in my ear to cease after a bit, as it alwats previously did, but it didn't. Luckily it's remained low level so far and my mind filters it out until someone reminds me. No point in worrying Smow. See a GP, when convenient, for confirmation. You may get sent to EN&T for an examination just in case it's something that can be sorted.
...ALWAYS...
Look on the British Tinnitus Association website.I found them brilliant when I first developed tinnitus.
