European countries generally have their own health service which according to ranking/comparisons, although they don't call it an NHS, is frequently more accessible (at upper levels in particular - think waiting lists) and commonly performs better than the UK's NHS. In at least some countries even foreign visitors were assured free Covid 19 testing on request from a very early stage. Treatment in most these countries is either in itself free (but commonly under a subscription type system, a tax-type collection like in the UK but clearly allocated into a designated fund as collected) or incurs normal charges as apply to any day to day treatment for other ailments. These charges are, I understand, always quite affordable (even just nominal).
