What about those who have a job to go to, this would mean a month away from their jobs instead of the usual two weeks.
And it includes ALL UK entrants , not just visitors

Well the answer to that is simple, people won't go! There was an airline/airport bloke on the telly yesterday talking about "getting people flying again" and taking holidays and how important it was and I thought "In your dreams" I suspect that business travel will reduce for some while as well, maybe permanently, as businesses see the financial benefits of remote working.

Unfortunately the measures stated in the link are too little, too late. Should have been implemented back in March 2020. Even if approved at the slow rate we implement such rules another 3 weeks will have passed. "Horse bolted, stable door locked" comes to mind.

The answer then, Bobbi is not to go abroad for your hols. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt folk to holiday somewhere in the UK just for one year.

I agree Ken, there are places here I’ve still to visit like Devon and Cornwall, The Cotswolds etc but what of those who face redundancy when planes aren’t flying?

It's interesting that lots of people were calling for this in April ago (and didn't notice we were doing it in Feb for flights from Iran, China, Lombardy Italy), but now it's being planned for lots of people are up in arms.
There will be exemptions for NHS workers- although I hope they test them before they start work

Many thousands will unfortunately lose their livelihoods as a result of this pandemic, Bobbi. Indeed, some already have. However long it takes, though, I do see a time where things will return to normal and thousands will once again take to the skies to reach holiday destinations.

we should have taken delivery this month of machinery built by a company in Austria. the company don't (yet) have much of a presence in the UK so it was intended that commissioning and operator/maintainer training be carried out at the maker's works in Austria. that's all on hold and until legally-enforced 14 day quarantine was announced it was hoped to get the guys out there in July. this is something that can't be done remotely so we're hoping something can be "worked out".....

its swings and roundabouts...to an extent the tourist industry in the Uk will benefit from staycations....assuming they want to welcome tourists, many places don't.
I really think that this is going to have effects on "normality" that will continue when lockdown is just a memory...as I have said, remote working, maybe even remote education, the shops and facilities that we want and those that we don't...I think we won't even know ourselves as individuals until we go back to the things we thought we had missed and go "actually, you know what? I am not enjoying this" or "this is not useful"

I did not say we should not do it. We should definitely do it, my comments are over how long it has taken to even think about it (almost 3 months). I cancelled a flight overseas on February 17th, lost money on the cancellation, but early and good decision by me.

I am not 'brains of Britain' by any means but my logic works quite well ☺☺

Actually I've never understood the need if it's a Brit returning home other than to encourage self isolation for a week as most were coming from places with better Covid records than we have here. I'm surprised the govt don't test them all at the airport- at least it would boost Hancock's numbers significANTLY

I don't know why they don't set up labs at airport and test everyone as they come though. At least people won't have to isolate for 2 weeks for no reason. Change for it as well.
