I have seen several posts on here about euthanasia for people with terminal physical diseases. This is about mental health problems...

Same as any other illness.

I fully agree that Euthanasia should be made legal but with some way of preventing abuse.

I'm not sure about the mental health aspect. It would be interesting to see how they 'controlled' the system.
Every single case will have its own complexities and though I don't think I could ever countenance it - I don't know do I?

We cannot feel the suffering of another.
It's been a long time coming but movement toward equality with other species is to be welcomed.
my life my choice...also what douglas said
Apparently, according to a recent documentary, George V was euthanized.

I do agree... that mental health problems can be worse even, than physical. But also, that it might be harder to regulate. Theland, people are euthanised, daily...
Im all for it.
As someone who has experienced mental health issues and associated psychiatric hospital admissions, Id still happily end my life in a painless way if possible during an 'episode'. Cant obviously speak for others though.
Life for some is pleasurable, but for others its just endurable.
For me its just endurable.
it should never be legalised.
I welcome death.

Mamya, out of interest, might you countenance it for terminal illnesses? If you want to answer x
Question Author
Any of it, TTT?
I understand that Pixie, and I bow to your expertise in these matters. Its sad and a great responsibility for all concerned, but I'm sure is done with good medical reason. Do you agree?
Nailit, that is so sad. Get help!
For myself Pixie? Possibly, it would depend on the level of pain and loss of any pleasure of being alive.

Those I have cared for hands on till death (12 years this week) I would have helped if asked - I wasn't.

Often emotional, more than just medical, I would say, theland. To prevent unnecessary suffering. I understand nailit's views. Hopefully, temporary.
In my time in hospitals and elderly care I have never seen someone euthanised. I have seen then given treatments to keep them comfortable that will have a life shortening effect, sometimes quite a marked one. I have also known of people who had enough medication in the house to end their lives when things got too bad for them, sometimes by hoarding, often with the knowledge and connivance of their prescriber. I think that vulnerable people are more at risk in a don't ask don't tell system than they are if things are discussed openly.

Unlike yourself Theland, I dont fear death.
I dont fear eternal torture and pain (hell) so for me, death would be a release.
Not saying that we should all go around killing ourselves, but simply that death is nothing to be afraid of. Everything dies eventually anyway. For some its a release.
Question Author
Thanks mamya- and sorry for that x
Same here Mamya. Not only was I not asked, I knew it would not be wanted....but I really wanted to do it.
Question Author
Yes, woof...I think it would be more reassuring to have some regulation than just "as and when".
What would be your view on mental illnesses?
