my 17 year old son woke up today with a hard lump on right side of his throat. I can't see anything inside but he can feel it when he shallows, although its not painful at all. Its firm to touch. Maybe a gland? No other lumps anywhere. I really would rather not go to walk in centre but is it something should be looked at?

The latter is unlikely.
Monitor the situation over the weekend and if he starts to run a temp then give him Ibuprofen. In this age groups Glandular Fever comes into the frame, but the treatment is just the same as i outlined above.
Monitor the situation.
I'm sure sqad is right, but is there any sign of a small bite on the neck. Horse fly can create a large swelling.

There's no bite mark. Thank you both.
My son had this and it was a salivary gland infection Too long ago to remember if it was blocked, but it disappeared. He did see a doctor about it though, so perhaps would be wise to do the same if it doesn't go down.
// It could be a gland reacting to an infection//
on the numbers game it is likely to be this
( overwhelmingly)
or glandular fever

[having had myself one of the others]
