If face coverings are effective at preventing the spread of virus's such as Covid, then should we now expect to see a fall, this winter, of influenza cases?
If not why not?

If flu cases remain the same, then a fat lot of good months of wearing face masks (+ social distancing, one way supermarkets, etc) have been.
Good hygiene and correct use of face masks can help with protecting you from viruses.
As can social distancing. But of course the impact of winter flu will depend on lots of other thing including the weather and the strand of flu
yes, we will see a fall in flu deaths.
odd, the rest was cut off.
Maybe because of masks, or because the 41k most vulnerable peeps have already been killed off, maybe because of social distancing, maybe because there'll be a larger uptake of flu vac

Havnt said it doesnt.
Be interesting to see the stats tho for Covid infections and flu infections during the winter months when precautions have been thrust upon us...
Question Author
So the stats for flu SHOULD go down then as the majority of people wear masks and social distance. And busses and stores allow less people in, gloves and contactless payments increase, and theres one way systems everywhere, and blah, blah, blah.
So the stats for flu SHOULD go down?
With or without Corona, they should go down with all the measures been in place?
Question Author
Bet they dont.
As I said above, the impact of winter flu will depend on lots of other thing including the weather and the strand of flu. The numbers vary quite a bit from one year to the next so could go up or down this year so we couldn't draw any meaningful conclusions from the figures this winter

Keep wearing your face nappy then. As you are told to do.
Never been told to cover up for much worse pandemics.
The flu is as old as mankind and killed as much (in spite of vaccines)
But carry on.

Its just bloody ridiculous now.
Dont have a life and if you do cover your mush up.
Cuz virus's happen. They dont kill everybody...
Nailit. I can't recall the much worse pandemics. Can you enlighten me....dates and deaths?
true in our lifetime but the Spanish flu at the end of the 1st World War was far worse - and for all the obvious reasons of knowledge, science, communications and the rest. More folk dying in that than the Great War....and on a smaller global and European/UK population base.
I don't find wearing a mask for short periods (maybe an hour a week on average) is changing my life much.
You are lucky if wearing a 'nappy' is the biggest problem you face. Some people have lost friends and family and some of my family have had to deal with the covid cases in hospitals.
oh because masks dont work
we have known that for at least 50 y
and I have been posting that for what seems like 50 y
It's common sense to wear them, covid/flu/Sars or whatever Covid 20 comes along with - whether they(masks) have any sustained benefit we shall see but I rather try and be on the right side of the equation then increasing my exposure with no prevention means other than the 2m distancing and washing hands etc.
Not even the ones hospital staff wear, PP?
Me neither, FF and thankfully I live where others feel the same and figures are low in the county and none in the village.

I have lost family to Covid and the attitude of some people sickens me. If I can help others avoid this virus by the simple wearing of a mask it's a small thing to do.
// but the Spanish flu at the end of the 1st World War was far worse //

it killed the younger generation - and went round like a thunder clap - not of the creepy creepy covid stuff
// Not even the ones hospital staff wear, PP?//
well if they go around in moon suits then yes

but THEY had one fastened around the head with a gas seal
and I havent ever seen anyone in the street with one of those
