Lower Back Pain

Probably as a result of sitting in my chair wrongly, I now have lower back pain and at times, though it sounds melodramatic, it feels like I'm wearing a belt of pain. I can stand from a chair, walk about, etc then...move at a wrong angle or an inch either way and BAM!...I'm on the floor or crouching or crawling about like an old man - which I am anyway, just in case... - I've tried Deep Heat patches, Deep Heat heat rub, Deep Relief cream with Ibu...but the pain doesn't go away until I go through it. It will probably disappear as soon as it arrived, but until then I suffer...it's mostly down my right side near the hip joint, but can spread along the back of my lower back and I shouldn't really be here sat typing this as another spasm has just hit, but there's nowhere else to go!...while getting my flu jab yesterday, my pharmacist asked if I was okay, I said I wasn't because of and she recommended a hot water bottle!...might be okay for sitting down with, but for moving about?...I'm sorry for the length of this, but if anyone can suggest any triple Rs...relevant reliable remedies, then I'd be Extremely Grateful...I think I ought to copyright the triple Rs, eh!...smile.

Hi Trevor...well, at least I got your answer, so the mail check thing seems to be working. Anyway, I used the word spasm as that is what it felt like - a quick burst, then...but it stays on for seemingly ages, but I won't bother the NHS, as they've got more than enough and much more serious things to be going on with, so I'll just rest when the 'spasm' comes and then just let it get on with itself, then proceed as normal!...whatever that is, but Many Thanks for answering.
I've had something similar recently, with no real joy from painkillers or gels. What has given some small improvement has been an exercise whereby you kneel down and curl up into as small a ball as possible - a bit like a praying position. This stretches the lower back muscles, and if you do it gradually to a point where it's not unbearable, and repeat it regularly throughout the day it might help. You can also try lying on your back and drawing both knees to your chest and in that position gently rock from side to side,without toppling over. It is a similar stretch, but don't overdo it!
