Tiny Hole In Septum - Something To Seal It Until Its Treated?
13 Answers
Ive had a varicose vein in my nose thats bled on and off for 20+ years, last few years it began to bleed again, and the constant picking out the crusty blood, scabs, blowing, wiping etc, has resulted in a tiny hole in my septum
the doc has confirmed it, & im to go to ENT at some point - however with current circumstances its not urgent so there will be a wait
but its driving me mad, the high pitched whistle with every breath is annoying but its also keeping me awake.
ive been sleeping with a bit of cotton wool up one nostril but its not great as obviously it affects my breathing
so i wondered if anyone had any ideas of what i could use to 'seal' it?
not something permanent - i thought maybe some kind of gel that dries to a plasticky coating or something?
the doc didnt suggest anything - but any ideas what would possibly work?
i thought perhaps bonjela? or that spray wound sealant stuff? (sprayed onto finger first)
any ideas welcome
thanks

An operation to close it may sound simple but it is not and the results are unpredictable. If it is the whistling that is bothering you, then making the perforation larger, is an option.
But getting to your question, that again is not as simple as it seems, but I would certainly try plugging the perforation with valentine before you go to bed, possibly by using a cotton wool bud to insert the valentine into the whole.

Thanks all.
ive actually only had it cauterised once - it lasted a long time, but i guess the skin got thinner over time
i have also had 2 nose ops since - first for a bent nose & problems with breathing - second due to the catrilage basically collapsing and splitting, it looked weird and developed dents - apparently a known issue after nose surgey
they also made it smaller etc while doing it so obbious removed some bone and cartilage
its not a good job really, i think on the second op they didnt account for the bone that'd been taken away the first time on one side and chopped too much, leaving a weird dent,
it also seems to have a little flap that flips when i breathe and is generally 'annoying'.
the varicose vein was caused by many years of being allergic to cat and having 2 - and also allergies to dust, mould, feather etc
but its better than it was.
the second one was about 4 years ago though.
ive tried vaseline, - and lip balm, but it doesnt last at all - it warms up and just runs out - thats why i thought about something that 'sets' rather than melts
given my irritation with my nose - are there any benefits to opening the septum a bit?

I very rarely use words like this on AB, but I can think of no other way to say this but........thetreatment of you nose problem has been a complete and utterly " cocktail up"
I hope this wasn't done I the NHS and if it was, then please do not tell TTT.
The only solution to your problem of whistling is to surgically have the hole made larger and that might ease the situation.
My earnest advice, free of charge, is to think carefully, very carefully before you agree to further surgical intervention.
