I was just reading about black panther and things like this just really get me down. I want to change my habits now though to avoid issues in the future with health. So when it comes to avoiding cancer what are all your opinions about it? We always bicycle when the weather is nice and we are mainly vegan and we try eat lots of fruit etc.. we love biscuits and chocolate though for elevenses hehe. Also we eat a lot of chips from our air frier. Is there anything else we can be doing? My oh is 16 years older than me lol so this question is mainly for him. I was reading that alkalinising your body is good but I thought the body regulated by some sort of organ not by food. Any opinions would be brilliant thank you. Also sorry if this subject upsets people we have all lost someone dear to this terrible disease :(

I honestly dont think its something THAT preventative except one big thing... NOT smoking! And thats no guarantee :0(
Your nice lifestyle would help you be fit for any potential treatments (god forbid you are ever diagnosed!!!)
Just my opinion/experience xxx

I once heard a description presented as a joke.
Observe humanity and you will find that: Those who smoke will die of lung cancer. Those who drink too much will die of liver disease. Those who eat too much will become overweight and die of heart failure. Those who follow all the advice, adhere to all the fashionable, trendy, magical ways to ensure perfect health and, hopefully, eternal life will be the ones most disappointed. One day they will be truly piffed off to find that they are dying of nothing at all.
A side observation: Those who enjoy what they enjoy in moderation, don't worry too much about all the fashionable trends, don't take "guarantees" too seriously, but don't live recklessly and assume they are invincible will pass through life comfortably and die content.

I AM INVINCIBLE!!!!! I've never bothered about what I eat. I don't drink alcohol and always try to avoid drinking water of any description. My liquid intake is mainly beverages and soft drinks, but definitely not coffee! I play golf once per week and sometimes I'll walk to the shops. 72, no health issues. None!
I AM INVINCIBLE!!! Excuse me now whilst I go for a treble Jura! :o)))))))

Cancer probably isn't as random as at seems, some types are known to have an inherited risk, others have been linked to environmental factors. As far as I can see there are many equally nasty things to fall prey to. I have often wondered if it's worth spoiling the best years of your life to try to extend what maybe the worst.
Doing all the right things when you are young lots of exercise etc ... Everyone I know who did a lot of sport, running etc when young from late middle age have suffered severe pain and nearly all have required at least one joint replaced by the age of 65 . Three have had cancer, and one has heart disease.
I walked a lot and been overweight most of my life and have similar issues some which were work related. So those lifestyle choices may protect some but not others.
However those in my circle who have the most significant health problems have one thing in common. Social isolation either because they made the mistake of retiring away from family and friends, then losing the partner they moved with, outliving their loved ones, or just not being able to make new friends because of shyness, trust issues, mental health problems. (Or just being cranky difficult barstwards)
So I would agree moderation, exercise if you can find something you en joy, regular connection with nature, and treasure friendships, and make new ones. You may not avoid disease or injury but you will cope better and have a better life whatever happens.

Stress is a big killer. Obsessing and worrying about things that haven't happened and probably will never happen causes stress.
Think of those that are currently in their 80s and 90s. If they lived in a large city or town they grew up in a heavily polluted atmosphere, inside the home and outside. Everyone was smoking wherever they were from birth. They grew up eating chips fried in lard, very fatty meat, suet puddings, three spoons of sugar in their tea (when it wasn't rationed), lots and lots of bread with butter or marge, lardy cakes. They had fried bread with their fried breakfasts.
They hadn't heard of alkalinising their body (and nor had I until now), their water came out of the tap (from lead pipes) and was usually only drunk in stewed tea or squash.
They didn't have anti-bacterial soaps and sanitisers. If they grew up in a house like mine they couldn't always wash their hands after had been to the outside loo.
They very likely smoked for many years themselves when they were (just about) old enough to start. They didn't wear factor 50 sun cream and probably lay on tin foil and covered themselves with cooking oil when they were sunbathing to get a better tan.
Yet they are still here! They may be the lucky survivors of a generation that went through very tough times but on the whole the younger generations have a much better chance of living to be 100 than ever before, without distilling their own water, avoiding washing up liquid and alkalinising their bodies.
Just avoid the known baddies such as smoking, eat well, stress less and live life to the full. It is no good living to be 100 if you have spent the previous 70 years worried and miserable. Grab life with both hands and blerdy well enjoy it
