Earache / Dental Treatment

Have just had a front crown fitted and since then have had an earache.was wondering if two are connected. Think my jaw muscles might be out of sync Any ideas don't relish another dentist visit.

I think that you have made the diagnosis yourself and yes your dental treatment and your earache are connected.
During treatment, with your mouth open, the "jaw joint " is put under stress and cause pain in your ear.
A condition called Tempero-Mandibular Joint dysfunction.
This should settle down after a week or two and in the meantime take painkillers such as Ibuprofen or Paracetamol.

My first assumption would be that the anaesthetic injection site (back at the jaw joint ?) is sore and possibly inflamed. Three days would be a minimum time for this to largely subside but otherwise consider seeing a doctor (perhaps rather than the dentist).

The injection is called an inferior dental block
and shouldnt be associated with ....
altho it works well ( very well ) and allows manipulation of the jaw which wd otherwise be painful

Inferior alveolar, mental and buccal nerves can also be affected due to local anaesthesia. Of these buccal nerve damage is the most rare. In addition to total or partial anaesthesia, altered sensation can mean deep, burning pain or flushing over the associated cheek.

I used to have to do them in esquimo, and north sudanese. - dont ask it was a long time ago - 1975

Thanks for your answers Sqad and Karl. Didn't have an injection at final fitting so will keep on with paracetamol for a few more days.
