Finding People

I don’t know if this is the right category or not, so I can repost if necessary.

I have Recently ended up finding some family members for different people, some who have been adopted. I love doing it, and I think I’m quite good at it. However, there is one person I’m looking for and I can’t find anything beyond a birth record. I see that there are companies out there that specialise in finding people. They also charge thousands of pounds. What records do they have access to, that I don’t? And are they legal?

Oh, that CSA.

Given that the other references in the advertising quote are to government agencies, and that many single parents (usually mothers) were/are desperate to find out where their former partners are living (in order to get some maintenance payments out of them), It would seem reasonable to assume that the 'CSA' mentioned was actually the Child Support Agency.

Even if the 'CSA' referred to is the Credit Services Association, that body is not in a position to licence any organisation to have access to confidential information.

My quote began with, "Your search is carried out in accordance with the Credit Services Association..."

. . . which seems to be suggesting that the company has access to the records that are available to credit reference agencies. They most certainly shouldn't have!
