Hi, all. I have been having a mad shoulder problem this last few years. I even did nothing with them the last 6 months but i struggle to lift my arm sideways even to pick up a tea bag. The pain is like a tooth ache when you need root canal along with a burning sensation at like biting points. I am in good shape so i should not be having this problem. Should i be requesting an mri for possible surgery

Wken did you stop doing weight training?

You may need some investigation into this and possibly physio.

I was mostly doing martial arts never did much in the way of weight training till more recent times it would always have been pushups and situps. and even then i never really pushed myself hard at it and i was on and off with it too when it came to any weights i am more in to natural weight gain than induced.
several years? Good grief. Has your GP suggested anything? You'd need a diagnosis before thinking about a cure.

The absolute basic of movements. I can't even lean forward with my elbows resting on my thighs without the feel my shoulder is about to dislocate. And i am always doing gentle movements and stretches. Well trying.

I have not said too much to the gp because most my time was taken by the knee i had 2 reconstructions on. I did mention it with less detail was sent for physio but this has done nothing to help
first things first, I suppose, but I'd be seeing him/her about it. If you can suffer from two things at once, they can treat two things at once.

But i stopped doing any weight training or anything since october. Although that was more because of having golfers elbow i didn't want an extra problem to be dealing with haha

Since the covid i don't really get real appointments. I only get phone consultations so that is a bit of a problem. I probably should request an mri though. That will determine what the issue is
Google frozen shoulder
I had shoulder pain& severely restricted movement last year during lockdown. GP (by telephone) said it wasn't a "frozen shoulder" and referred me for physio advice. I did some exercises they gave me but got no improvement.

Eventually I went private (£400) for ultrasound & steroid injections. It WAS a frozen shoulder. The injections freed it up and I now have full movement & only slight occasional pain. £400 well spent!

GP said they no longer refer patients for steroid injections on the NHS. Don't know if that's true.
/////Should i be requesting an mri for possible surgery/////

No.

You give a good description of a Frozen Shoulder and you need injection of a steroid around the joint.

How you get this and when is another question.
In the meantime take painkillers e.g Ibuprofen.
The NHS still provides steroid injections for frozen shoulder where appropriate. I don't know why you were told differently, davebro
you can't just "request an MRi" (well you can but you'll probably get short shrift!)
you need to start at the beginning with pain killers and physio.

I have in total had this shoulder problem for around 13 years. Just that it has been getting worse over time. I don't know about the uk system but over here in ireland. They told me i had a bruised knee after i snapped it. Only when it never got better did they give me an mri turned out i needed a knee reconstruction so my trust on them a little low
//The NHS still provides steroid injections for frozen shoulder where appropriate. I don't know why you were told differently, davebro//

As I said I don't if it's true but that's what they told me. Even without an examination she said it wasn't a frozen shoulder - some kind on telepathy I guess! I think the suggestion was that they skip the injections & go direct to manipulation under anaesthetic but as we were in the throes of "saving the NHS" I opted for the private route.

NHS doesn't apply to me. I live in ireland so it would be the HSE. I got my doc appointment today. Finally he wants me to get injections and an MRI after i described it all to him. So it might finally get sorted. Hopefully
