Have any of you ever had it?? How serious? And how ill were you with it? Best ways to heal recovery? Ive been quite ill with it, in hospital, and just looking for advice on healing. I’ve been told avoid foods high in fat, and alcohol, obviously, but anything else?? TIA xx

My friend's husband had pancreatitis all the time and whilst their relationship was volatile - when he had an attack of the pancreatitis - her heart went to him as he suffered so much pain.
Again he was an alcoholic but he couldn't give it up right up to the end of his life. I know Smow - not much advice but I know from her saying - it is extremely painful and so I feel for you.

Hi 1ozzy. That’s really useful - Thanku. I know you’re not saying I’m an alcoholic, but what with losing 4 stone, my evening wine after 6pm (don’t ask me why 6pm lol) was just too much I’m guessing for my much reduced size, and lack of appetite. Lack of appetite faded as my sense of smell did, so I lost a lot of interest in food. If it wasn’t this (evening wine) then it certainly didn’t help. Some people are clearly more prone to it, but I can say hand on heart that I would rather give birth then go through that pain again - I was lite4ally curled up on the landing at the top of our stairs sobbing for help. The paramedics had to use gas and air to even attempt to move me. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

i have had it and was ill for months. THe initial diagnosis came when i got out of hours doctors to visit and he called an ambulance immediately, and was rushed to hospital. He diagnosed pancreatitis, and the hospital eventually found me a bed. I had to wait to have the op to take out the gall bladder because i caught an infection whilst in hospital, but once done, the pain really kicked in, i had key hole surgery and stayed for 7 days in hospital. I was told by a nurse to move and stand shortly after the op, which was bloody painful.
afterwards when discharged from hospital i spent many many weeks recuperating, couldn't get shopping, or go out. avoided alcohol and didn't eat much so lost some weight. Not sure what else but the months it took to feel right was miserable. I suggest you follow doctors orders where possible and not to do any heavy lifting at all.
let others help you in any way they can. I was unlucky as live alone, but friends rallied round and helped, and i got on line shopping, which was a god send.
