I went through a fairly early menopause after a hysterectomy at forty and am now pushing fifty eight and still get them from time to time.I can remember my mother still having the odd one in her sixties. However these days you don't have to put up with all this aggro and I would have a word with your doctor who may be able to advise you as to how to cope with it.
I know just how you feel..you wake up in the night sweating like crazy or you are in a shop or somewhere and all of a sudden ..Phew !! Most unpleasant. Other helpful tips....
Wear clothing made of natural (i.e., cotton) materials
Black Cohash from the health shop.
Exercise at least 30 minutes every day. You can walk, run, ride a bicycle, or do another activity. Just don't exercise within three or so hours of going to bed to help prevent night sweats.
Dietary triggers that can start a bout of hot flushes include alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods. If your hot flushes seem to be worse after consuming these foods, try eliminating the offenders and see if the hot flushes subside.Try soy foodstuffs ..milk etc. I found cutting out dairy foods a great help.

Yep,can wear only the cotton stuff etc....Have practically given up caffeine...cos I find its linked to cramps also..Alcohol and spicy foods can trigger a really bad reaction at times, but, sometimes, its just..omg!!..without any of the triggers!!..Its like really bad sunburn!!...As they said when we were teenagers...its a phase!!!
Sorry to dissapoint you rickee, but they can go on for some time. All the other advise is very sound--anything which helps is worth a try-- I have gone onto 100% cotton duvet covers/sheets etc. and it makes a big difference;unfortunatly my other half gets cold in bed so we have quite a hefty tog duvet,I stick my feet outof bed to keep cool! and I'm sorry to say,I'm 66 so you have a while to go yet!!!!
Hi rickee, your post reminds me, of me. I am the same I only have to look at a woolly jumper and I feel hot. Have loads of tops etc, that I dont think I could ever wear again lol. Tried most things and the flushes still keep coming. You feel like your the only one, whilst everyone around you is wearing jumpers, you have a t shirt on, oh and the classic saying of is it hot in here, or is it me. Not to worry they must end at some point, we hope.
