I'm Feeling Good

Just come home from a stay in a private hospital and an op in a private hospital and it's been a great two days. We are not rich, but we've had no holidays or any kind of breaks for three years. Money well spent. Lovely staff, looked after like Queen and amazing staff. And wonderful medical treatment. Food was amazing.A beautiful room with a view across the fields. Quite sorry to come home! No more expensive than some people pay for a a stay in a spa.

I feel more relaxed than I have in years!

Have decided to go there for my next more serious operation.

Good to hear Lottie and as you say well worth the money. I was in one in Surrey some time ago and they were just wonderful, better food, lovely views, like you.
But when I was in Guy's NHS hospital in London they were all lovely as well. The views weren't so good though but couldn't grumble.

My dad had a major op done in a private hospital (paid for by the NHS). I was amazed to see a wine list along with the food menu. The NHS didn’t pay for the wine, of course.

During the past year, my friend and I have both had the same op, performed by the same surgeon. He had to wait many weeks for his private op, whereas I got an immediate referral and appointment under the NHS ;-)

I had 3 ops in 2 different private hospitals, all on the NHS. At the last one I was able to order my husband a lunch along with mine. Great menu, and peace of mind for me knowing he had a good meal. I paid for his food and well worth the cost.
I did however have 2 cataract ops on the NHS in one of the hospitals.. first time had a nice private room to wait in and short rest after before going home. Second time, same hospital, herded like sheep with 15 other people in a cramped room where the nurse came along the line of people popping drops in our eyes..NHS patients definitly didnt get the same treatment as previous.

Chris, I had an immediate first appointment and an op two weeks later. Yhevop under the NHS would have been at least 17 months. The more serious op also has a super long wait which will mean a serious deterioration.

I have never had a complaint about the NHSA, but this was bliss in comparison. And the laughs I have had with the team have been a great tonic. And the staff worked so hard. And iscwas wonderful having my own lovely en suit room and a quiet night's sleep and people who knocked on your door before entering.

I have had NHS treatment in Private hospitals and its totslly different from what the private patients get. I never realised how different it was. The op before this one in a different private hospital, on the NHS, was a horrible experience. Far worse than in a NHS hospital. It was like a production line.

Ken. It was like holiday. I feel rested. A bit sore though, but not surprising. I was hoping I would need to stay longer, but I recovered very quickly and my sats were perfect so I had to come home. I paid up front and if I had had tonstsy in longer the price would have stayed the same. One small thing. I have come home with a black eye! Whilst I was under anaesthetic a nurse slipped, dislodged some sort ofnpole caught the corner of my eye. The surgeon came and profusially apologised and it got examined quickly. I just laughed and threatened to sue them. And as a bonus a handsome surgeon, and a handsome anaesthetist from an op three years ago who remembered me well and called me the strong stubborn lady who he loved!! I've had such fun.

Ahh am glad to read this Pat! As some of you know, I’ve only v recently( 2 weeks ago) been discharged from an NHS hospital after being in there for two weeks. Could not fault the staff - absolutely amazing - tho severely short staffed, and even they said so themselves. Food was utterly vile, to the point that the staff would offer to get you takeaways and bring them in for you lol, so I’m glad that you had good food at least Pat. And peace in your own room - really does help the healing process doesn’t it. Am hoping that you continue to recover at home well x

It probably doesn't matter but how does the takeaway food provided by the staff differ from the dire takeaway food brought in by relatives of patients?

I know I'm going to kick myself but just can't bring the answer to mind.

Lol @ Douglas. Think I meant for example say that once evening meal had been and gone,and was usually inedible, which was always early(4.45pm ish) then if you hadn’t had any visitors you were left basically hungry until the morning, so when the evening shift came on about 7.30pm they’d usually order a local takeaway from one of the many near the hospital for their supper, and would sneak up to your bedside and see if you fancied anything because at least it was eatable(in comparison lol)

I would point out that my son has now bought my share of the house that my dear Mum left us and we have decided that my health means more than money in the bank at our age. Thanks Mum. I really feel sorry for those that are on long waiting lists. I would point out though that you can pay in installments if you can afford it.
