My 65 year old brother fell off his roof ten days ago. His injuries include a shattered ankle and a shattered elbow. Broken ribs and injury to his brow. He has not yet been operated on. The swelling has subsided sufficiently but the hospital are waiting for an expert in ankle breaks.
Will these bones start to knit after this time? The ankle will be a three hour operation, so because of the anaesthesia they will wait three more days to repair the elbow. Will this delay cause more problems?
/////One For Sqad Or Knowledgeable Folk//// LOL....in other words there are the knowledgeable ones and then there's sqad......LOL. Broadly speaking on has about 10 days before a fracture begins to start healing so a delay in that time is neither here nor there in the big picture of treatment options and as long as pain and immobilisation are controlled then...

No
ten days is peanuts when it comes to 107 y olds
if they are doing it in two goes then they are worried about the rest of him ( = anaesthetic risk)
sorry sorry joke coming up -
one must lighten up a sad tale - this being AB n aw
I thought after smashed ankle and elbow you were going to ask Qad or other knowledgeable folk - - - "and what is Wrong with him?"
Oh Jesus, I hope he feels OK at the moment. Not sqad, obviously, but in my experience, only very young children start healing that quickly.
In over 60s, I have known them be delayed for 14 days, without any further complications.
Best wishes to him.
