I’ve been offered another ongoing temp job where I work in another dept (audio typist). I like temping as it suits my circumstances and I like and need my freedom.
Problem is they’re not as flexible with my working hours as in my current job and when I explained about taking time off for leave, I was told, “Oh no, we can’t have two of you off at the same time” (as I’ll be working with one other). I don’t have problems taking time off where I currently work and can come and go as I please really, being the only temp in my current dept. My boss will even say at times, “You’re a temp. Do what you want as you don’t get paid when you’re off anyway” (it’s all done through the internal not for profit agency I work through).
I like the sound of the job offered but really I wanted it on my terms.
I mainly want to try another job as my manager 'forgets' to process my hours some weeks and I go without pay. It's draining for me to have to keep asking for my money. I like my job but the managers are haphazard with my pay and I put up with it knowing I'll get my money eventually.
also, would it be so bad for you to hav to wait a week or so while your colleague comes back (most people (probably him/her) plan their leave so you'd know in advance when you couldnt have that week off
I didn’t think people still employed audio typists! I remember an agency once called me a ‘professional temp’ which I was! I loved moving around, (audio typing) and was often offered permanent jobs, luckily I knew what the job was going to be like has I had been temping there! Those were the days …
