I work with a guy who is a transvestite.
We get on well, he presents himself as a male at work.
(which he is)
But on 'occasions' he presents as a female.
The last works AGM (And the one before) he presented as a female.
The previous one was a bit of a shock. The recent one, no one battered an eyelid,
(we'd all got used to it by then I guess)

I don't give a fig about anyone's orientation, if a guy wants to look like a woman or a woman wants to look like a man, I couldnt give two hoots.
(Or if your gay/lesbian, transgenger etc...)
What I DO find contentious, Is the reactions of others.
Example...how would you feel about my work colleague using the works toilet as a man, when dressed as a man, and using the female toilets when dressed as a woman?

It really doesn't bother me. If he's using the ladies, then he/she is using a cubicle & nothing to be seen.
He should use the toilet that corresponds to his biology. Ie, if he can pee standing up then the Gents is the place to go, no matter what he is wearing.
I'm guessing the male ABers would be ok with it, Nailit, but the female ABers will not. And for obvious reasons.
It's the same as mixed hospital wards in my mind. If the male part is still present then male toilet. Boobs gone then male toilet.
but the female ABers will not. And for obvious reasons
What reason is that Ken??

He's just a human that needs to pee.
If he's in a personal cubicle whats the issue?
Not saying that I agree or disagree, just putting it out there.
Men often have to pee side by side (never felt comfortable with that myself,,,,can't be the only one surely?)
Bashful bladder and all that!!
I have direct experience of this as a male colleague in an alpha male job role in a male dominated workplace finally opened up and came to work sometimes dressed as a woman, sometimes as a ma and more often than not a mixture of both.
Although understandably he was whispered about somewhat but overall got a very open and supportive reception from everyone including me. In fact he would sk me about make-up etc.
Hoping I've got the right type - he had no desire for surgery nor a permanent transition and has an extremely understanding wife. I was fine with all of it until he came in the ladies loos when I was in there. Yes I was cross and affronted and I think he was selfish and insensitive.
Sharon, Nailit says the guy is a transvestite, not a gay. So he could still be interested in women from a sexual point of view. I would've thought women would not want men in their toilets? If that's not the case, then every day's a school day on AB :-)

Also I can't be the only one that was a bit disconcerted by meeting a co-worker dressed as a woman for the first time (Last year)
but it WAS a bit disconcerting at the time!!

Ken, he's married with kids...
Nailit, just think how bashful your bladder would be if a female came in, stood beside you, dropped her drawers and backed on to the urinal to relieve herself :-)
If he wants to dress as a woman do so at home not at work. I don’t want his private unusual habits inflicted on me.
Ken, when I use the toilets I don't scrutinise everyone that comes in. So a man dressed as a woman could come in. As I said as long as he doesn't pee in the sink, life goes on.

LOL
But it does illustrate a point if the roles were reversed.
It cuts two ways...
I cannot conceive that I would be in such a situation in the workplace or indeed anywhere else.

Male toilets are for biological males ( XY chromosome) and female toilets are for biological females ( XX chromosomes)

I can't remember the last time I used a public toilet and at work, the above applied.

Again, not wanting to be contentious, why not?
(BTW, he never has done at work, just at the work AGM)

Dont know about selfish but I tend to agree.
Insensitive certainly.

The world has changed a lot Sqad.
Including its attitudes towards those who used to be seen as mentally ill for having same sex feelings etc.
You are correct Nailit, the world has certainly changed, swearing even in children seeme to be tolerated and the "F" word which in my time was regarded as the depth of blasphemy is now in common practice particularly on the TV.

As for sex and sexuality and the new entries into the vocabulary I am at a complete loss.
Luckily, I think, I have lived in the appropriate eras that have suited my personality.
My daughter has a transvestite that work at her place of work. One day he was bent over his computer with his mini dress on and everyone could see his very small pink frilly knickers showing, with most of his private bits hanging out! Nobody dared say anything, but was quite bemused...
