Wearing A Ring On Your 'Wedding' Finger

My Mother always told me it was unluckly to wear a dress ring on your wedding finger if you were unmarried.

Does anyone know why this is?

Grand daughter always wears a large ring like this, i told her it was unlucky, she asked why and i must admit i couldn't answer her.

She just laughed and said not to be silly, she probably right but just wondered if anyone knows the origins of this superstition.

Lord of the Ring or summat.

Probably an old wife's tale that if you wore a ring on that finger, you would never get married.
