Last year I was shopping at a grocery store while I as walking down a aisle a jar of applesauce fell off a shelf and hit me on the head. I felt more pressure on the head than pain. Several minutes later when I just finished paying for my groceries at the register I felt a strange feeling in my head after which I can't remember anything and next thing I know I'm being wheeled into a ER. What exactly happened to me?
You fainted (vaso vagal attack) quite common after head injuries, more common than is realised.
Mechanism is unknown.
Loss of consciousness in the event of sustaining a head is a different ball game and may require, further investigation e.g MRI scan. One would in this scenario would need to exclude a brain injury, but fainting after a head injury is so common as to be not worth investigating further.
