Maybe things have changed since my day but, actually, I doubt it.
Back in the days when I was 'dating', if a young man said to a young woman (or vice versa) on, say, a Saturday night, "I'll meet you on the steps of the City Hall at 7 o'clock next Friday", that would be when they would next have any contact. They wouldn't expect to phone each other, or to meet each other, in the meantime.
A 'date' is just that: a date in one's diary. It's NOT a 'relationship'. (It's only when two people have fallen madly in love that they might reasonably expect to be in almost constant contact with each other).
Give the guy some space. If he really wants to go out with you, he'll still be at the appointed place, at the appointed time anyway.
