Could This Air Hunger Feeling Be Caused By Anxiety?
5 Answers
I have been experiencing a feeling of air hunger on and off for the past 3 months- feels like a I am not breathing enough air in despite normal breathing. It started when I had covid on day 1 and lasted 24 hours before returning a few days later. It then came on and off for weeks and was particularly bad the day before I caught a chest infection at work (not covid).
I have noticed that when lie on my side it can trigger it.
I went to see my gp and a cardiologist following a fainting episode (following a ankle sprain) they think it was mostly vasovagal syncope and said that my ecg looked normal. I mentioned the air hunger sensation that I sometimes get but neither really said much about it. My sats are normal and I ran 1 mile the other day sats dropped a little after the run but soon returned to above 98%.
I do have anxiety too which might be contributing. Could anxiety still be the cause if it comes on when I lie down?

My other thought is that it may be your nasal problem that is blocking your nose and causing you to "fight for air" particulary as you have nasal polyps which obstruct when you lie down.
Perhaps see an E.N.T surgeon.
