/The committee said Lord Pannick's opinion was "founded on a systemic misunderstanding of the parliamentary process and misplaced analogies with the criminal law".
It rejected Lord Pannick's call for Mr Johnson to be represented by a lawyer who would speak on his behalf and cross-examine witnesses.
In a statement the committee, said it "does not have discretion to allow counsel to speak in a hearing and conduct cross-examination, and it would require a decision of the House to permit this".
Parliament voted to launch the inquiry in April, after a series of revelations about events held in and around Downing Street while Covid restrictions were in place./

Of course he misled parliament. Don't know where this supposition of a comeback comes from. Almost his entire government resigned.
If he is banned from Parliament for over 10 days, his constituents can insist he faces re-election. A by election before Christmas would be interesting test for the Government. And fun for the rest of us.

There was an interesting article in the “torygraph” the other day, by some old journo crony of Boris. He said that there was no one on the planet less suited to the job of PM. Lazy, inattentive and incapable of telling the truth , amongst other choice comments. First question: So how did it come to pass then? Second question: how many times can a political party shoot itself in the foot? The jury is still out on LT and the gang, we shall wait and see , but the Johnson legacy could be disastrous if it lets Su Keer in to the big chair.
