yes.....all to do with energy.
If the fire is getting low (cold) then you put coal on it and same with the human body, if you feel cold, then eat and the metabolism produces heat and you feel warmer.
Uniqlo do a Heattech range of light thermal underwear which isn't hugely expensive but really does help you stay warm without having to dress like the Michelin Person.
The reason that you eat more is because you are cold. Food is counted in calories. I'm not doing too well at explaining it That is energy, which is heat. I'm trying to say that calories=heat. Your body needs them. Hope this garbled explanation helps. I am not a scientist, as you can see. :)
Put the heating on. We did 2 days ago. We would rather live.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that over 80% of the food you eat is used by the body to keep you warm...thats why if you are cold, your 'mind' makes you hungry!
I couldn't contemplate having the heating on right now and I've got no appetite to boot. I'm sitting in front of the fan right now. I'm fighting a nasty cold so I guess it's my temperature.
It was so cold in my house, the temperature reached the setting where the heating comes on automatically. It’s awful to be cold. I have had it on for a few hours today.
I've mentioned this several times before on AB but it bears repeating: buy an electric blanket. It makes a huge difference getting into a nice warm bed - especially if like me you live in a difficult-to-heat old stone property - and you'll find you sleep much better, too.
They're not expensive, about £30.
The £300 for pensioners which comes with the winter fuel allowance mentioned previously is per household. So if you are a couple then it's £150 each. That's how I understand it.
