I have been away in a city 40 miles away for a couple of nights seeing friends and theatre etc. I normally only travel in the dark about 10pm however tonight it got dark at 6pm and I am really tired I want to get the bus at 8pm as it Is dark now is it going to get any darker. My thinking being logical or illogical is the risk of being delayed as a result of an accident is lower in the dark. Next bus is 1030pm. Will it be darker then than is it now?

It will not get any darker, though the roads may get slightly quieter. Weigh this up against the tiredness of the later driver at the end of their shift. I would go for the 8pm bus.
Do you have a torch you can use. It might get lighter as the moon rises depending on its size
It may in fact get lighter depending on the moon. Although being in a city you may not notice a difference.

In a city, there should be street lighting, so once it is dark and the lights are on, there should be little change.

As to risks - it is impossible to say. Less traffic, but more idiots.
Snap Calmk. It is a waxing moon tonight. And only 1% visible so it wont make much difference. I was talking nonsense.

Out here (no street lighting) on a full moon and a clear night, you dont need a torch!
The thing is gord...it tends to get late early this time of year.
My experience of dark is that if you are in the country, away from artificial lighting, then there is a slow decrease in illumination which starts at sunset (when the sun has sunk but still lights the atmosphere above us) and then it gets slowly darker (that's why the stars become more visible as time goes by) until all the stars become visible (and the milky way if you are lucky).
In town it is different; you rarely see a proper dark sky.
Halloween is near - be careful.....whooooooo.

I was trying to address the anxieties that Geordie was expressing. Those who thought this was funny should have a good look at yourselves.

Have often wondered if carrying a torch at night, especially if you're female, increases the risk of assault.
