I have asked about Sosa Streams before and I know that it is a sensible move for me to buy one. I don't know much about them so I can't decide which one I should purchase.

I would like to continue to use my 500ml Pepsi empty bottles, will the machine let me do this?

Do you chill the water first? I like my drinks to be icy cold.

Is there a simple way for me to recycle the gas canisters?

Does the fizzy water taste like it is pure water or does it taste like Perrier etc water? (that tastes like weak Andrew's Liver salts to me)

Is it idiot-proof to operate?

I know that it won't work out much cheaper than buying 500ml bottles, I buy them in bulk from Amazon (24 bottles for £19 - they are £1.40 in Tesco) but I have no recycling facilities and I end up binning the empty bottles.

I hope that it lasts longer than the smoothie maker, the blender, the steamer, the soup maker, the mp3 player with Bluetooth headphones, the water fountain for the cats (I gave it away after the kitties died), the new hairdryer with the diffuser, the hair styling brush and whatever else that I have forgotten.

Sodastream will be the last thing I will ever buy. :-)
lol i dont have one so cant answer specifically, but i do know a couple of answers
1) you could use your bottles to store the product but not to make it
2)fizzy water will taste like fizzy water (distinctly different to still water)

But you are obviously a gadget freak!

Why?

ps fizzy water tastes utterly vile to me too
We had one. Bought all the accessories etc etc. Gave the lot to the charity shop. It works out very expensive and wouldn't buy another one.

"Why" was the answer to Dave's first question.

I have long wanted a soda stream - I don't know if I actually need one though.

Bednobs - I don't want fizzy water to taste of anything. Or tap water is lovely and clear - but I do like fizzy stuff. I suppose that I will have to wait and see.

There is no rush for me to make this purchase - I got a delivery of 72 500ml bottles of Pepsi Max on Friday.

I am supposed to be getting rid of all the crap in the flat. I need to move somewhere more suitable for my mobility issues. But buying new gadgets is much more fun!

To repeat your question - WHY?
Question Author
Why?

I am addicted to Pepsi Max and I don't want to run out over the silly season. I don't smoke or drink alcohol. This is my treat to myself.

I'm off to read some stuff on my Kindle. I will return but I may be some time!!
None ?

It'll go to the back of the cupboard, another unused purchase that seemed a good idea at the time. After all, how much soda water do you quaff ?

I can buy genuine syrup that, when mixed with the fizzy water, can make Pepsi Max, 7up or many other drinks.

I will just be adding tap water - the soda stream just adds the bubbles/fizz,
I`ve got the Crystal Soda Stream. I bought that model because I wanted the glass bottle. I only use it to make sparkling water so I don't know what it would be like if I made cola etc. as I don't drink that. The water is nice - I put a wedge of lemon in and store it in the fridge. I have bought ginger beer cordial (Belvoir) and put used that with the sparkling water and it is really nice - just like real ginger beer. You can buy new gas canisters at Argos and other places - you exchange the old one. A canister goes a long way though.
72 bottles of Pepsi Max. My God, think of all the chemicals in that, not to mention the plastic pollution.
I’ve got a soda stream. You need their bottles to click into the machine, so you’re own bottles won’t work. Not in my machine anyway. In my opinion, you can’t save the water as it just loses it’s fizz. We just use it when we want fizz. It works out a lot cheaper than bottles of fizzy water, esp if you sign up to a deal with them.

I don’t chill the water first as I put a load of ice in the glass. You can use chilled if you wish.
This company does lovely cordials that I use with the Soda Stream

The Iron Brew tastes exactly the same as the real thing.

The chemicals are a concern. I have cut my consumption of Pepsi Max in half. Maybe one day I will manage to wean myself off it - but probably not.

RockyR - I don't know why I am dithering about buying this machine. I am just not in a decisive state of mind.

Irn Bru is poisonous - my granny used to give it to us drink and I hated it.

After some thought and input from a lovely lady on FB I have decided to buy this https://sodastream.co.uk/products/terra?variant=42031579070658

Thanks to all of you
