Hi Flu /Chest Infection
9 Answers
Hi I had a bout of flu over Xmas which meant I couldn't even get out bed dreadful experience obviously
Then as the flu was passing I developed a chest infection which will not go away
This has been going on 2 weeks now in total and what is worrying me is the fact I'm not really eating
I'm onto complan in the hope it builds me up
Is their any point phoning my gp I'm aware these infections are viral and antibiotics don't work but is their anything he could prescribe which would quicken my recovery especially my no appetite
It takes forever to get through to my gp and I don't want to hog a phone line if I'm wasting his time

Have you got a persistent cough?
Are you coughing up sputum, if so what colour, blood etc?
Have you got a temperature?
Have you any underlying medical conditions e.g diabetes?
How old are you ?
From what you have said, there seems little point in contacting your GP, although answers may make me change my mind.

I've had the 'flu, followed by a couple of weeks of chesty coughing which felt like a secondary infection. 23 days after starting with the 'flu on 12/12, I woke up and knew it had gone, but I was exhausted and am still tired, sleeping for at least an hour in the afternoons. My appetite is just about coming back, but not what it was. Others report much the same.
I was just on the point of ringing the Dr. when I started to feel that life might just carry on, so I didn't. It wouldn't hurt to ring.

I have had the dry cough which led to a chesty cough, bringing up a bit of yellow gunk. You need antibiotics, I had Amoxcillin, although even now two weeks later, I still have the dry cough and get very tired. You don’t want to get pneumonia and end up in hospital. Lay it on thick with your surgery and insist you need to see a doctor asap. ..
