Buying A Bed
11 Answers
I now need to buy a new bed, just a normal double bed with drawers underneath.
I found one at Ikea, it says that it is a 'high' bed. Has anyone bought one of these and would the extra height be a problem for me at 5' 4" ?
Beds are more expensive than I thought. I thought that it was just Ikea that was expensive but the prices have gone up quite a bit since I bought my last bed in 1989.

If the bed was to close to the floor she struggled to stand up.
If the bed was to high when she sat up on the edge her feet wouldn't touch the floor.
Both of the above caused problems for her.
My advice would be test the bed for arising and chambering into before purchasing.
PS: you may need to check wether or not your cats approve,,

Ozzy, I am between cats at the moment.
I have measured my own bed and the 'high' Ikea bed is the same height.
Having spent yesterday afternoon on a low sofa in the local tavern I can say that getting up from that was no joke. So the high bed will do.
My current bed base is 33 years old this year and is a wooden frame. I don't think that it would cope with dismantling and moving. The mattress is around 4/5 years old and due for renewal.
I have two options for getting the bed built - Ikea could build it when they deliver it or it could go onto the list that my brother will get handed to him when he comes to help.
Thanks - the bed is a major purchase.

If you were closer, Wolf, I'd come and put the bed together for you. I love messing about with drills, screwdrivers and screws. Not too good at hammering though. I never get the nail straight.
Good luck with it all but, if you can, try out the bed before you buy it otherwise it's an expensive mistake.
