Given the choice of two people, would you rather the examination be carried out by a gay person of the same sex, or somebody of the opposite sex?
If it doesn't bother you, would you feel the same if you had to choose for your teenage child?

I really find it hard to believe that anyone could get a thrill from carrying out a medical examination so it's never bothered me.

I'd rather not have an intimate medical examination at all to be fair, BUT if I had to, the sex (or sexual orientation) of the medic wouldn't bother me.
It worries me not one jot; I don't think it worries the medic either. A few years ago, after a major trauma, our neighbour, who happens to be a nurse, came to see me. My wife felt it only right to point out that, whilst I was led on the sofa, I wasn't wearing anything under my dressing gown. "I'm in medic mode", was the response.
What a bizarre question. Wouldn't bother me.

That's what I'd expect, bhg. Usually if it is opposite sex a chaperone is in attendance, such as a nurse. Never really knew if this was to protect the patient from a rampant doctor or the doctor from unfounded accusations.
How would you know the sexual orientation of a stranger?

A friend of ours, a GP, works at our local practice. I would never book an appointment with him.
I had to go to the breast clinic for an examination. The consultant was a male and the accompanying nurse was a former pupil of mine. I was actually embarrassed about her being there. I don't really know why.

The current debates about transgenders in prisons, changing rooms etc just set off a change of thought, that's all.
I posted earlier about gay people in prison and then started thinking about the fact that airport security frisks are always carried out by same sex officers but this segregation is all a bit pointless if they are gay.
If a man & I didn't know he was a homosexual it wouldn't matter would it? but if I knew he was, I'd much prefer, (all things being equal) a heterosexual.
If it was a woman, I wouldn't care what she was.

Tilly, my wife says she is more uncomfortable being examined by a woman medic but she can't explain why.
My prostate doctor is a woman and it doesn't bother me.
Once every six months I go into Tübingen and a man sticks his finger up my bottom, I don't know if he finds any pleasure in it, but I certainly don't. :0)
You could argue that a homosexual 'intimate areas' doctor is preferential for a man as they know the area better. No?
That's funny, Zacs.
Question Author
I think all men know their intimate areas very well, Zacs.
I feel just like your wife Barry and I don't know why. I find male doctors and nurses in general far more gentle than females. Don't care whether they are gay or otherwise.
And I am the same, have always preferred a male doctor. I feel they are more sympathetic strangely.
Tilly I fully understand about your ex-pupil. I wouldn't have liked that either. When I left teaching on maternity leave a young girl gave birth at the same time as mine and we were in the same ward. The father was an ex-pupil of mine who'd been expelled only a couple of years before. That was weird!!
I don't think there can be many people straight, gay or otherwise who go into the profession for the thrill they might get from examining people's nether regions!
Did you dive under the bedclothes, Prudie?
Luckily although he was expelled for very unruly behaviour he'd always been OK in my classes. Silly I know but I was more embarrassed about him seeing me in bedclothes and generally waddling about!!
Yes!
Ha ha Prudie. Apart from a very few close friends I prefer male company to female company. Always have. Never would go 'out with the girls' or to hen parties. Perhaps that why I prefer male doctors and nurses. I can have a laugh with them.
