I don't think anybody would seriously claim that putting a uterus in a man makes them a woman, but, then again, that's precisely because biology doesn't define gender.

There won't be enough organs available for transplant to meet the demand from those women who either have a non functioning uterus or have lost theirs early to disease or injury. the need to take anti rejection drugs, with an increased risk of fetal harm makes me think it's a potential dead end from a restoring the ability to carry a child point of view, unless the management of those drugs was absolutely perfect in terms of balancing risk to the mother (rejection) and unborn child.
I don't think uterus transplant as part of gender reassignment surgery will become readily available,simply due to donor organ availability, especially as the entire system not just the uterus would need to be transplanted. It might be tried on an experimental basis or using a donor uterus in the abdominal cavity as a gestation chamber with no potential for a conventional birth

Well, at present there are people (senior politicians and the originator of this thread among them) who suggest that a man simply saying "I am a woman" cuts it. This thread has been raised to demonstrate that surgery of this nature will make such a declaration even more difficult to deny. I don't for one minute doubt that men having this done will claim they are women because there are already a number making such claims now when they are clearly without any foundation.
