Is This A Potential Cause Of Trachea Damage?

I know that some organs can easily and others have difficulty

The reason I ask is I have had this very dry rough cough for 6 weeks - no evidence of viral infection/upper resp symptoms. It seemed to start when I was using steroid nasal drops in my nose which can create dryness/feelings or pressure as a side effect. My trachea now seems to be deeply irritated and tickly just below the adams apple though sometimes this is more non specific and it feels like my whole lungs are irritated.

I was tried on antibiotics to not much avail - there was little improvement then symptoms came back again

Last night I didn’t sleep at all as my trachea felt so tickly, this went worse to the point where I could hear a slight wheeze. It felt like I was breathing through a plastic pole so I went to the gp - apparantly my lungs were clear and he started me on prednisilone 2 days ago.

I did worry about asthma as I have sinus issues (which increases the risk) but I measured my peak flow for the sake of it and although it is low (300) as it always has been there was no decline.

I had a spell at worrying that maybe I had a thyroid mass that was pressing on my trachea

Then I thought back and for many weeks prior to its onset I have had a nervous habit of taking a very deep breath fast many times through the day. I did feel a tiny bit of aggravation/pain whilst doing this at the time but ignored it.

I am wondering if this could be the cause do you think? And can a trachea heal itself over time?

The trachea is a very resilient piece of equipment and i very rarely irreversibly damaged by infection and in URTI,s it is the vocal cords which take the brunt of the attack.

You problem is that of a viral infection and your GP has interposed with the correct treatment.

Thanks that’s reassuring^ I hope I am just overanalysing as it all seems so weird and different to usual viral infections I’ve had
