Maybe......maybe not.

He needs a 24 hour BP monitoring to assess the average BP.

My guess........it is O.K.

Cheers both, will monitor over 24hr, to get better average.
No! no!

I mean a BP monitor, provided by the hospital which is worn on the body for 24 hours.

Oh, ok got you. Dont think I should request one of those, with no health issues. But do check at home on my own machine now and then. :•))
In the days when I was working I had regular blood pressure checks as part of my job; my blood pressure was similar to yours and I was told that less than 150 was OK. Four years ago, at the age of 73, I had a triple A (Abdominal aortic aneurism) which only about 5% of people survive; my aorta had become swollen with the blood pressure and, finally, burst. Having your aorta checked is a simple, pain-free procedure so it might be worth your while asking your doctor to get yours done. It's literally the same as a baby-scan - some gel on your chest and an ultra-sound machine run over it. Think about it.

Thanks for the heads up, bhg. Did that just happen out of the blue, or did you experience some problems before hand.
Completely out of the blue. We were going to have a day out to see the final flights of the Tornado aircraft but the weather wasn't brilliant so we opted out. I was playing on the computer and felt a bit unwell and then got very unwell. My wife called the doctor who recommended 999 and, fortunately, an ambulance was passing the end of the road and diverted. BP was down to about 20 and they made my wife wait outside the ambulance as they loaded me as they didn't think I'd make it. Apparently I lost 4 litres of blood and you only have 5 to start with. They showed my wife the scan of my aorta and it was about 6cm - normal is 1cm. Only a week in hospital and then I persuaded them to let me go home, although still quite weak.
Question Author
Looks like you could have a gona had it not been for the ambulance already in the area. Thanks again for the info.
I should have added - I've been on blood-pressure tablets ever since and my BP nowadays is around 120/80.
I self monitor from time to time, when I am due for a meds review.
I measure in the morning (mid morning) and take three readings with a few minutes between them, during which I relax and breathe slowly and deeply and focus on my blood vessels melting and relaxing and disappearing. The third reading is always the lowest, and I record the two lower readings (on a spreadsheet). I repeat in the evening (after a wine-washed-down evening meal which always reduces BP for me).
I do this for a week, and my spreadsheet then analyses the numbers and shows the average BP.
I don't know if I can upload a spreadsheet here. If it can be done, then I'll do it if anyone is interested. It doesn't reduce blood pressure, but it does let you know what is the average over a week.
bhg. I'm on BP tabs and my last measure was average 112/70.
144/79 doesn't sound too bad, but I'm no expert.
bhg 122/80 even better.
these figures are normal
yeah they stuck a foo-foo up your aorta pronto innit?
just talking down to ensure comprehension in one standard Aber

I trust they performed an endo-var replacement under x ray control
as an abolute emergency( poncey Peter)
PP. //just talking down to ensure comprehension in one standard Aber//

You insult people constantly, Stop.
I actually remember very little of the whole episode but one thing that comes to mind is them asking if it was OK for them to cut my shirt off. I suppose they could have said "Can we cut your shirt off or would you like to die?"; I opted for shirt off. All I know about the operation (I was asleep at the time) is that they replaced a lump of my aorta with a length of "garden hose" and left me with a 12" scar. When I asked if they'd thrown the aorta to the red kites which fly around the hospital they refused to answer.
yes miss
delete if you feel it is a public order issue

"These figures are normal" should not insult or challenge anyone but hey this is AB, on a Monday
PP, you've been asked to stop and still you continue. Now please stop.
open repair
big thingey ( I am writing on AB and like Dickens, I tailor my script to the circumstances) about whether the x-ray guided procedure is better or worse than open repair

the jury surprisingly is still out on that one ( thought the x ray procedure wd be much much better ) - there are times when I think I write far too technically for the average ABer but ho hum see how long this lasts
