I am seriously thinking about going privately to a Spire Hospitsl to see a specialist. I have previously used private hospitals for surgical reasons but not for medical problems. Can a gastrointestinal consultant issue nhs prescriptions. I don't want to tie myself into private ongoing treatment.

I think you would have to ask him, lottie. Many work in both sectors and some are happy to do a mixture of private and NHS.
After my private operations both surgeons gave me a script but only for a couple of weeks, they then wrote to my GP telling then what was required going forward.
or she naomi - i heard they even let women be consultants now.
in any case, yes they usually can as long as it's a prescription that the nhs CAN do.
Indeed, bednobs. Mine is excellent.

Thanks Naomi. Obviously I get free prescriptions on the NHS. I have a problem now that needs a long chat with a specialist who won't be watching his watch - not my gp who i have to wait a couple of weeks to see for a 10 minute appointment- and then refer me to the local NHS hospital for a very long wait.

Thanks to Red and Bednobs. I'm just so fed up. I believe I know what my problems are Basically all tied in with my EDS and hypermobility. again. I just need to see someone who can give me time.
I know how you feel, MissT. For myself I am trying to find somebody who will examine me and cauterise my nose on the same day - I know it needs cauterising, my GP agrees. Such a simple blerdy thing but seemingly impossible.

My oldster has multiple issues - heart, lungs, a serious blood condition, as well as typical age related problems that means bagfuls of medications. I wish somebody could help me understand what symptoms are typical of his problems and what symptoms should be ringing alarm bells. Sometimes I feel as if I'm drowning

It's awful Barry. I just get more and more depressed and tired everyday. My medicine box gets heavier and heavier. What really annoys me is having to see multiple doctors and specialists for all my problems, which have nearly all happened because of one generic condition. My tired out hubby feels much the same as you do about my medical problems. X
I hope you can find the help and reassurance you need, MissT.

Thanks Barry. What relaion or friend is your oldster.
My wife's uncle.
When one of my grandson's became a hipster with a very impressive labour-intensive moustache and beard Uncle said he wanted to be a hipster, too. Grandson told him he should be happy that he's the best oldster and it stuck.
Question Author
Well Oldster is lucky to have you.
Thanks, but we have all had good reasons to be thankful to Uncle over the years.
