Why Won't My Ears Pop?

My ears feel constantly blocked but no amount of holding my nose and blowing makes them clear.

if its wax it can take many days even weeks of loosening with drops or olive oil then syringing if they dont clear themselves

no point in speculating, you need to see a DR (GP) who knows what he is about.

I do use olive drops regularly but they don't seem to help.

Try holding your nose and sucking, while holding your head back, chin up high.

Floko; A bit like my suggestion. Sometimes you need to reduce pressure in th ear by sucking air into your eustachian tube from the inside, rather than increase pressure by blowing.

I wonder if you have sinus infection?
Keep wallowing, Yawning, chewing gum. I even read screaming might unblock your ears! Best not do that.
Nasal sprays for hayfever sometimes help. If no joy, keep pestering your GP. Good luck.

Tilly; there's a tube between your mouth and your inner ear. It's called the eustachian tube. If it's relaxed and open then the pressure on both sides of your eardrum is the same and there is no feeling of blockage. If the tube is blocked/congested then there might be higher pressure outside than in, or vice versa. If you can unblock the tube, then the pressure can balance and make it all feel better. If you hold your nose and blow, you may be increasing the pressure inside your eardrum and making it all feel worse: or you may be doing the right thing and it will feel better. I could go on, but I think Sqad would be better giving his advice.

The Eustachian tube connects the back of the nose with the MIDDLE ear......not the inner ear.

I can only assume that Tilly means that her hearing is impaired in both ears...........is that correct Tilly?

I have impaired hearing in both ears and require hearing aids. The audiologists suggested ear drops based on bicarb of soda rather than oil based drops. This required before syringing in order to get a better assessment of the type and strength of my new aids. After two evenings use in both ears all was clear in my ears and the tests could be conducted satisfactorily.

Ear issues solved by your doctor these days ? Very unlikely. Not considered important. You will need to pay for a private treatment.

You could get them microsuctioned privately.
I had it done recently before getting hearing aids.
GP doesn't do that anymore amongst many other things!
